Full description
Purple beads, ten millimetres, and nothing else on the cord. The colour is natural to the blend, not dyed on.
The formula
Agarwood · Sandalwood · Lavender · Hainan Qinan
Agarwood is the resin the perfume world calls oud. Qinan is its highest grade — this one from Hainan, the island off China's southern coast, where the greenest and most resinous material has been graded and traded for centuries. Lavender is the one Western note in the blend, and the one you will recognise first.
The plain one
Purple Dawn is the same blend, the same colour and the same 10mm bead, with two citrine beads set at the front. This one has none.
That is the entire difference, and it is worth stating plainly rather than dressing up: some people want the stone, and some people want the strand to disappear under a cuff. If you are the second kind, this is the one.
Where the name comes from
Purple air comes from the east.
Laozi rode west toward the Hangu Pass, meaning to leave China for good. The keeper of the pass looked east, saw purple vapour drifting toward him, and understood that a sage was on the road. He would not open the gate until the old man had written his teachings down — which is how the Tao Te Ching came to exist.
Purple air from the east has meant the same thing ever since: something good is on its way, and it has already started moving.
The bracelet
20cm · 10mm beads
Made by the blended-incense method. Botanicals are selected, hand-ground to powder, sieved, weighed, bound, and rolled into beads one at a time.
Wear it
Every day. That is rather the point of it.
About the scent
This is not a perfume.
No alcohol, no spray, no projection. The oils live in the beads and wake with the warmth of your skin. Someone across the room will not smell it — that is the point. It is a scent for the person wearing it.
It is strongest in the first weeks and softens over the months that follow. Keep it dry; moisture is the one thing that shortens its life. If the scent quietens, warm the beads between your palms for a moment.
